Ravellenic Games in Vulcan-land

Dates: Friday, August 5 - Sunday, August 21
"The One Rule To Rule Them All: Challenge yourself by starting and finishing one or more projects during the 2016 Summer Olympics. What will be a stretch for you? It could be a new technique, that first sweater or pair of socks, something massive, something delicate, or maybe finishing that monster in the closet." ~Home of the Ravellenic Games 2016
The GBFG Ravellenic Games will kick off at First Friday Spinning (perhaps while watching the opening ceremonies, technology permitting) and conclude with a closing ceremony party.
Events include:

  • Triathlon Trials
  • The X-Yard Dash
  • Finding the Finish Line
  • The Handspun Hurdles
  • The Foot-Race
  • …and any other event ideas you may come up with…

Post your goals and projects in the GBFG Ravellenic Games Ravelry thread.

GBFG Old Shale e-book: "a brilliant deep dive"

Mason-Dixon Knitting reviewed the Greater Birmingham Fiber Guild Old Shale e-book and called it "a brilliant deep dive!"

This is well-deserved praise for all of the GBFG Knitting Study Group members! Download the free e-book (if you don't have it in your library already).

Twiddlemuffs

Twiddlemuffs give people with dementia something to do with their hands, which as fiber craftspeople we know can be calming. They are also pretty and fun to make. Janice made a beautiful one.

Janice's Twiddlemuff

Take a look at other knit and crochet Twiddlemuff projects on Ravelry.

Janice has volunteered to distribute Twiddlemuffs made by guild members to local nursing homes. There are free knit and crochet patterns for Twiddlemuffs available online. Janice will collect the first batch at the September meeting, which will be the Fiber Frenzy at the Homewood library.

The guild show will be up at the library in September. Don't forget to bring work for the show to the August meeting.

GBFG Homewood library show

Our annual guild exhibit is scheduled for September, 2016.  We’ll be collecting your work for this year’s exhibit at the August meeting, so now’s the time to get those beautiful projects finished and ready for the world!  This year, Fiber Frenzy will be happening at the library, so we will all get to see the show together and celebrate our joy in working with fiber.  Don’t miss this great opportunity to give your work a museum-quality place to be seen and to share your gifts with all of the library visitors. (The library has enclosed exhibit cases, so your hard work will be safe.)
