Our program this month is: The History of Color
Join us as we welcome the esteemed Professor Derek Cracco, Associate Professor of printmaking and computer graphics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and his in-depth discussion of the history of color.
The history of color has been one of perpetual discovery; whether through scientific advancements or exploration. As early as 40,000 years ago we know artists invented the first pigments-a combination of red ochre and charcoal. Professor Cracco will discuss these inventions as well as the subsequent variations that have come to pass over the centuries. The history of color is a fusion of art, trade and science. Help us discover the path humanity has taken to arrive at our current knowledge and understanding of this fascinating topic.
After our colorful discussion, please stay for Show and Tell. This month we are showing of things we made with love (and perhaps a swear word or two). Please bring something to show off and pass around so we can all ooooh and aaaaah over your lovelies!
